Children in Poverty

Orphans and vulnerable children in Simwatachela have lost one or both parents due to mainly HIV-AIDS or polygamy. Zambia has one of the highest rates of HIV in the world, while the Tonga people in the Southern Province have the highest concentration of polygamous marriages. On average a man has 2 to 4 wives. The high rates of HIV and polygamy cause children to face extreme poverty.
